Experiences
Stephen joined Equal Assurance in early 2008 to provide a range of audit services to clients. Key focus areas include independent external and certification audits in OH&S and risk management systems.
As a Practice Leader with Gallagher - Western Region, Stephen assists clients in the identification, assessment and control of their strategic business risks with the aim of reducing losses and insurance costs, as well as maximising business improvement. Stephen specialises in the area of occupational safety and health, workers' compensation and injury management, and public safety and liability.
Stephen started his working career as a farmer, working on the family wheat and sheep farm. During this time Stephen was actively involved in the local volunteer St John Ambulance. In 1994, Stephen left farming and commenced study as a mature aged student completing a Bachelor of Science (Health Science) degree at Curtin University and later a Post Graduate Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health also at Curtin University. Stephen's health and OSH related work experience includes the following positions.
- Registered Nurse in several large teaching hospitals in Perth.
- Occupational Health Nurse in the mining industry for several large open cut and underground mines.
- OH&S Coordinator for the global food manufacturing company Cadbury Schweppes responsible for all aspects of management and coordination of the company's OSH management system.
- OH&S Coordinator for West Australian Newspaper Limited responsible for all aspects of management and coordination of the company's OH&S management system at the large Herdsman newspaper production facility as well as related business units and divisions.
Stephen has over 20 years of experience in safety and health management and now assists companies and other organisations to improve their OH&S management systems as a specialist OH&S consultant. Stephen's OH&S consulting experience comprises the following areas:
- Conducting OH&S management system audits and reviews.
- Developing OHSMS manuals policies, procedures and supporting documents.
- Conducting hazard reviews and risk assessments.
- Conducting incident investigations.
- Development and delivery of OH&S related training.
- Assisting clients with early intervention and injury management processes.
- Coaching managers and supervisors in implementing and maintaining OH&S in the workplace.
